Earth Hour 2016

Earth Hour launched in March 2007 when 2.2 million people and over 2,100 businesses in Sydney switched off their lights for an hour. The following year Earth Hour went global to over 35 countries, and in 2015 over 7,000 cities and towns participated from 172 countries.

In 2016, it is estimated that one in three Australians took part in Earth Hour, and AGL is proud to have participated again this year. On March 19th we turned off the lights and signs at our Melbourne, Sydney, and Adelaide offices for one hour between 8.30 and 9.30pm.

Earth Hour is a campaign designed to draw attention to the issue of climate change and get people talking about what we can do to help. As Australia’s largest emitter of greenhouse gases, we realise the importance of taking action on climate change, and are pleased to support our Energy For Life partner, WWF-Australia for this important event.
